From Slaughterhouse to Stauning — a guided tour of smoke, booze and robbery stories

All of these questions -- and many more -- will be answered now. * *Go back to the beginning when Mogens Vesterby — former butcher, Master Distiller, co-founder and Stauning's first employee — opens the doors to the original distillery: a disused slaughterhouse in Stauning. Here, the grain was hand-malted on the tile floor, dried over peat from a nearby open-air museum and ground in an old meat grinder. At night, Mogens got up and turned the grain with a shovel. * *Along the way, you'll hear the stories of how a wild idea turned into award-winning whiskey -- today served at Noma, among others -- and how a chance meeting with a famous whiskey writer changed everything. * *An experience for those who want to get close to the roots -- and the smell of something that became much bigger than anyone imagined. *
