From Slaughterhouse to Stauning — a guided tour of smoke, booze and robbery stories

Where and when were the very first drops of Stauning whiskey distilled? What did they taste like? And what really happened in the old slaughterhouse before the world opened its eyes to the whiskey from West Jutland?
All of these questions — and many more — are now answered. Go back to the beginning when Mogens Vesterby — former butcher, master distiller, co-founder and first employee of Stauning — opens the doors to the original distillery: a disused slaughterhouse in Stauning. Here, the grain on the tile floor was malted by hand, dried over peat from a nearby open-air museum and ground in an old meat mill. During the night, Mogens got up and turned over the grain with a shovel. Along the way, you'll hear stories about how a crazy idea turned into an award-winning whiskey — which is now served at Noma, among others — and how a chance encounter with a famous whiskey author changed everything. An experience for anyone who wants to get close to the roots — and the scent of something that has become much bigger than you had imagined.
